Not your typical Dunkin Donuts

Up in the northern parts where I come from, a Dunkin Donuts can be found as easily as one can find a church here in the Holy City. I am able to bike or walk to at least 5 Starbucks (I don't know the plural form of that word!), so the opening of the first Dunkin Donuts a few months ago was monumental for northern expatriates such as myself.

I biked to DDs after my 9AM sociology class to work on the story I put off yesterday. Man, that Dunkin Donuts is plush! There's a flat-screen television, free wi-fi, cushioned chairs, and chic wicker chairs.

And it gets even better. I know that what I'm about to report may sound dreamlike for New Englanders, but I promise you that it is true. I had finished my coffee and muffin and was working on my paper, when an employee sat down to watch the t.v. during a lull. I commented that it wasn't so busy anymore. She said, "Yeah...you want a refill on your coffee?" I was confused, but I naturally assented and handed her my cup. I still wasn't sure the offer was legitimate, so I walked up to the counter. "How much does it cost?" I asked. "Free...refills come with the coffee."

Okay, I'll be honest. At the time, the free coffee refill and one-on-one DD service was great because it was so unexpected. However, the shock and excitement of this quick interaction have decreased. Now all I can suggest is an injection of Southern hospitality into Yankee territory.

When my laptop battery was nearly empty, I headed out, but not before thanking the good lady who served me. "You come back and see us soon!" she said. I told her that I would. As I was unlocking my bicycle, I saw my gray-haired sociology professor from earlier and greeted her so enthusiastically I about caused her to have a heart attack.

If they were really good they would have recharged your laptop!
